East Mountain Chamber of Commerce
General Meeting Minutes Outline
August 4, 2011
President Suzy Clay called the meeting to order at 11:45am.
Location: Los Vecinos Community Center. This will be our meeting location through November 2011.
Board Members present were: Suzy Clay, Peggy Moeller-Mead, and Linda Eaglefeather. Bob Brittain, Deea Emmons, Paul Mendoza, and David Saegart were absent.
New Member Presentation: Cedar Point Grill, co-owner Kim McDaniel provided as update about this popular East Mountain restaurant. They became the new owners in January 2011. Since they have taken over, there have been a lot of changes including serving dinner every night and a new chef who has a degree in culinary arts. They are still working on getting the liquor license. Also every weekend there is live music.
Current Member Presentation: Karen Cipoletti of Vista Care Hospice presented information about the Hospice program. Hospice is a gift about care and love. Hospice is covered by Medicare and Medicaid. A patient is eligible for Hospice if they are in the last 6 months of life if the disease follows its normal course. Vista Care has a full team that takes care of the patient as well as the family during this difficult time. Karen shared with us that the benefit is underutilized through the country. Vista Care has 100 volunteers and there is need for ones in the East Mountains, if you are interest please contact Wilda Martinez at 505-821-5405.
Guest Speaker: Amy Miller and Tina Farber of PNM. Amy began the presentation addressing the recent increase in the cost of electricity. The price of electricity is at or less than 1988 (adjusted for inflation) because major new infrastructure was built in 1970. PNM needs to enhance the aging infrastructure and there is a large increase indemand. In New Mexico rates are still less than most states. There was 22 years without a rate increase which occurred in 2008. We still have a lot of infrastructure to update in 2011 thus the request for 11% increase (they only received 9%).
Tina discussed the Energy Efficiency Program. There are discount light bulbs available at most hardware stores or you can go to PNM.com for location. Refrigerator recycle is another important program (PNM will give you $30 to pick up your old refrig and recycle). Please contact Tina if you are
interested in learning more about the Large and Small Business programs. Her contact information is 505-938-9400 ext 79117.
