General Meeting Minutes Outline
May 5, 2011
President Suzy Clay called the meeting to order at 11:45am at the Los Vocinos Community Center. Tijeras facility is under construction.
Board Members present were: Suzy Clay, Peggy Moeller-Mead, Bob Brittain, Linda Eaglefeather, Deea Emmons. Paul Mendoza and David Saegart were absent.
New Member Presentation: Bill Herman of Hollywick Farms presented information about his alpaca farm (www.hollywickfarms.com). His business is 3½ years old. The alpaca is a fleece animal and the end market is fiber. Bill stated that the alpaca fiber is highly sought after and a much better product than wool. Shearing occur once per year for the farm of 17 alpacas. He encouraged everyone to take advantage of the 8th Annual East Mountain Fiber Farm and Studio Tour, June 4 & 5 from 10am – 5pm.
Current Member Presentation: Linda Schaffer, owner of Comfort Keepers gave the Chamber an update on her 1½ year old business. The mission of Comfort Keepers is to provide there clients with the highest level of quality life that is achievable. Each client is treated with respect and dignity as though they were caring for a member of their family Her territory covers Moriarity to Belen. Fifty percent of her clients have Alzheimer’s or dementia.
A normal visit is a minimum of 3 hours. Linda also noted that Comfort Keepers is also here to assist people with short term needs such as after surgery or after childbirth.
Guest Speaker: Vickie Voyles from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) shared with the Chamber information about this volunteer organization. The Federal Emergency Management Agency began promoting nation-wide CERT Teams in 1994. The goal is for CERT Training to provide a partnering effort with emergency services in the local community. CERT members are then integrated into the emergency capability of a specific area (such as the East Mountains). They teach you to be prepared in case of an emergency or disaster. Vickie indicated that the next CERT Training will be September 9 - 11, 2011.
Old Business: There will be no member coverage at the Chamber office until construction is complete.
Suzy Clay announced that our guest speaker for the June meeting will be Wayne Johnson, County Commissioner. Also in the afternoon after the Chamber meeting there will be a workshop to aid small business owners presented by the office of the County Commissioner.
Bob Brittain reported the balance as of April 30, 2011 is $7857.27
