Meeting called to order at 11:40 am by President Bob Brittain. Pledge of Allegiance was recited and an introduction of officers, members and guests. Bob Brittain also introduced the new manager of Los Vecinos Community Center, J. R. Burger Boy provided the lunch.
Both the new member presentation by Prince of Peace Church and School and the current member presentation by Exerplay were postponed to a later date as presenters could not be present.
Guest speakers were deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Broderick Sharp and Deputy Valorie who presented info on home security & burglary. Most crimes in the East Mountains are burglaries by people on drugs needing money for narcotics. From 2011-2012 there were 191 burglaries in the East Mountain area. From 2012 to date, the numbers have declined to 86, due to more deputies out in the field. Sgt. Sharp gave some good advice for area residents to deter burglars, such as leave your dog in the house, leave your lights on, install sensor lights, and businesses install loud, audible alarms. Be observant of suspicious vehicles and persons in your neighborhood. Report suspicious persons to deputies. Demand feedback from law enforcement. Currently, copper burglaries are most prevalent in the East Mountains. To contact the BCSD in non-emergency situations, call 505-798-7000. For emergencies, dial 911. Sgt. Sharp’s number is 505-468-7420, and he would be happy to answer questions and/or concerns at that number.
Treasurer Bill Herman gave the January Treasurer’s Report. Income was $2810 and expenses were $498.19. Bank balance as of the end of January 2013 is $5587.
Member of the month is C. J. Mead Construction, Inc.
