New Member presentation was given by Anna Gurule from Back to Health, an acupuncture and massage therapy business. Anna does the acupuncture and her partner Melanie Cotton does massage. They maintain regular office hours and are located across the street from the entrance to the cement plant on South 14. Acupuncture is a treatment for pain, asthma, weight loss, addictions, allergies, etc. Anna also does lifestyle counseling. Melanie trained as a nurse but loves massage therapy and said it works great for arthritis. She uses heated stones and charges $50/hr.
Guest speaker was Rick Percival from GCC Rio Grande Cement plant. 14 years ago GCC had 3 plants in Mexico. The plant in Tijeras was the first plant in the USA and they are currently building a plant in Pueblo, CO. Rick and Jose Madera provided a slideshow presentation. They employ 79 people in the Tijeras plant and most of what they make is used locally. They make cement products for residential building and commercial construction. They also make concrete used for paving and it is competitively priced with asphalt paving. Because concrete is more reflective it is widely used in public works projects and parking lots and requires less lighting.
Bill Herman gave the Treasurers report. Last month we had about $400 in income and $1,328 in expenses, leaving a balance of about $4,000. The actual statement had not arrived by the meeting date.
