Minutes of EMCC October 4, 2012
The meeting was called to order by President Bob Brittain at 11:45am. Other board members present were Diane Shoudt, Secretary, Bill Herman, Treasurer, Wayne Clay, Barbara Ormand, and Kara Schug, Members at large and Julie Albright, Chamber Administrator.
A new member presentation was given by Philip Conley from Waddell & Reed. This is a 75 year old company which helps people with their financial and retirement planning.
Another new member presentation was given by Dr. Steven Wrege of New Mexico Foot & Ankle Centers. They currently have an office in Edgewood, open 4 days a week and one on Juan Tabo in Albuquerque. There are 6 members associated in their practice.
Guest speakers were Mike Murphy and Mark Smith from Harris Technology Services. They provide telephone and computer services and they talked about keeping your data safe. It is important to have virus protection and be sure you use encrypted on line storage services. Also have physical security to your computer access and use complex passwords and change them regularly. Back up your data and test it frequently and use a good firewall. Microsoft’s website offers free anti-virus protection. If you would like a copy of their power point presentation you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The treasurer’s report was given by Bill Herman. The beginning balance for September was $6,251.79. The ending balance was $5,288.63, a $963.16 decrease due to expenses of $1,411.66 and income of $230.
Jason Martinez from Los Vecinos reminded everyone that the annual Trick or Treat night will be held on October 26th at Los Vecinos. EMCC members can have free booths if they provide candy for the kids. You must RSVP by October 19th.
Breakfast with Santa will be held December 1st at Los Vecinos. Kara Schug has volunteered to take charge of the silent auction. Donated items will be appreciated. Volunteers are needed to help decorate on November 30th and also needed for the day of the event. The event starts at 8am. They also need help getting advertising flyers delivered to area schools.
Nominations for next year’s board are needed and can be sent to Julie Albright.
Member of the month is York Septic Systems.
