The NOAA Meteorologist's level of confidence that we will have dangerous wildfire weather conditions develop in the EM has risen to the " red flag" status for tomorrow, Sunday, April 24th. These conditions will endure from 12 noon until 8 pm. Remember, "red flag" conditions are characterized by high winds, above average temperatures, and very low relative humidity. These conditions can exist at any fire danger level, and we recently moved to the "High" fire danger level in the EM forests. The complete forecast discussion is here: http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=abq&wwa=red%20flag%20warning.

You don't want to miss this one!! The Sandia Park Scenic Byway Firewise Community is hosting a Fire Fair to help residents prepare for fire season. This will be May 7th, from 10:30 -12 noon at the Vista Grande Community Center. This is a comprehensive session, with multiple sources of helpful information, from local emergency responder agencies to private groups. Best part of the event: first graders from San Antonito Elementary School will be making a special presentation about helpful fire safety tips. Bring the family - there will be a forestry craft table for the kids. A great way to keep the youngsters engaged while you gather valuable wildfire safety information.
EMIFPA always encourages you to stay engaged and prepared for the potential wildfire disaster in our homeland. Remember, if you see or smell smoke, always call 911 immediately. Report it, don't ignore it!!
