This weekend the fall Free Green Waste Days begin. Saturday September 24th until Sunday October 2nd you will be able to take any and all green waste to the Bernalillo County East Mountain Transfer Station on Old 66 east of Tijeras. The Transfer Station opens at 8 am, and last load needs to be in line by 4 pm each day. Remember, all loads MUST be covered. Branches that blow out because they are not secured are a driving hazard.
This is a great opportunity to work on some defensible space projects. We have had a mild monsoon, but very likely we will be moving into a dry winter and spring 2017. Now is the time to get ready for next year's wildfire season by cutting low hanging branches and the heavy grasses around your house. Waiting until the fire is at your door is too late!
Green Waste Days are brought to you by Bernalillo County, Commissioner Wayne Johnson, Cuidad Soil and Water Conservation District, Edgewood Soil and Water Conservation District, and the NM Association of Counties.
As always, EMIFPA advises all residents to be aware, be prepared, and be self reliant. Fire conditions in our area are presently "moderate". As always, Report It, Don't Ignore It! If you see or smell smoke, call 911 immediately.
