EMIFPA Fire Info - October 10, 2016: Reminders

10/10/2016 2:45 PM | Nancy Carpenter

EM Residents,

This week two events are taking place that everyone needs to remember.

First, the Sandia Ranger District is planning 3 days of prescribed burns in the Sulphur Picnic Ground area near Sandia Park. This is planned for this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 12th, 13th and 14th. As with all prescribed burns, unless all burn parameters are a 'go' on each day, no ignition will take place. Also, if ignition is started, and then parameters go out of 'the green', ignition will be stopped.

Next, this coming Saturday (October 15th, 2016) EMIFPA will host 2 very informative and interesting sessions at the Tijeras East Mountain Library. We will have Simtable (https://www.simtable.com/) conducting a computer generated sand table focused on the recent Dog Head Fire near Chilili. Simtable is a company doing cutting edge computer modeling of wildfire. This tool is used by multiple emergency response agencies across the West as teaching tools training first responders to wildfire.

Because the computer modeling sand table is an intense, hands-on learning experience, we have to limit the number of attendees in each session to 15 people. There will be 2 sessions. The first runs from 12 noon until 1:30 pm, and the second runs from 2 pm - 3:30 pm.  Both sessions will be conducted by Stephen Guerin, CEO of Simtable. He is incredibly knowledgeable about wildfire and computer wildfire modeling, so these sessions promise to be a fantastic experience.

Please send us your intent to attend by sending us a RSVP to [bhelmich@flash.net]. We apologize that this is not a hot-linked address, so just cut-paste it into your email provider address box.

As always, EMIFPA advises all residents to be aware, be prepared, and be self reliant. Fire conditions in our area are presently "moderate". As always, Report It, Don't Ignore It! If you see or smell smoke, call 911 immediately.
